Located on the peaceful shores of the Pamlico Sound, our campground blends island tradition with modern convenience. We’ve designed every aspect of St. Clair Landing Family Campground to ensure comfort, safety, and scenic beauty—from full hook-up RV sites with water, electric (30/50 amp), and sewer connections, to clean facilities and essential amenities like WiFi, hot/cold water, laundry, and a dump station. We also have a full bath house featuring both indoor and outdoor showers, so you can rinse off after a day at the beach or under the stars.

Located in Rodanthe, North Carolina, St. Clair’s Landing Family Campground sits on soundfront land filled with history, heart, and natural beauty. Our story begins with Captain St. Clair Midgett (1894–1965)—a well-loved figure here on the Outer Banks. Known for his hand-carved decoys, St. Clair’s legacy lives on in the land, the water, and the community he helped shape.

A Family Legacy on Hatteras Island

The Midgett family were among the earliest settlers of Hatteras Island, once owning a remarkable stretch of land from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pamlico Sound. The site of our campground was part of that estate. In the mid-1900s, Captain St. Clair began dividing the property, selling parcels while retaining the soundside portion. That land was passed to his son Harry and eventually to his grandson, Irvin Midgett, who purchased the property in 1994.

At a time when development was booming across the island, Irvin chose a different path—building a peaceful, family-friendly campground with his own hands and protecting the land for future generations. From the very beginning, he worked to safeguard the shoreline and preserve its natural beauty—a legacy that continues to welcome guests today.
